Happenin’ Halloween

Dylan is our family costume coordinator, and this year he “pointed” us to a cast of characters we all agreed would be fun to portray. Halloween arrived with much anticipation at our house. The day before Halloween, Adela premiered her costume publicly at the neighborhood playgroup, and Dylan commented, “Only one more day until Halloween — Yeah!” Both Dylan and Adela donned their costumes for the Glen Park Montessori Halloween parade to local merchants at noon, and our neighborhood ghouls and gobblins decked out their homes for a lively local Trick-or-Treat evening venture, complete with a cool, eerie fog. A classmate of Dylan’s joined us with his parents for a fun evening peppered with our neighborhood kids’ ooohs and aaahs at Matt’s transformation while he doled out candy.

The Yu-Liter Clan Comes to Visit

This past weekend, we had visitors from LA: Felicia and Jeff and the twins, Frances and Eleanor, who are too cute for school. It was a kid friendly weekend, full of playgrounds, meals at home, and a celebration of Adela and Felicia’s birthdays. Among the many adorable moments was Eleanor taking her naps (and sleeping at night) in the tent in the playroom.

Adela’s Birthday and First Day of School

Big times for Adela. She turned two (going on six) and started school. To celebrate her birthday, we went on a retreat with some families from Jeannette’s church to a camp near Santa Cruz. Highlights included ping-pong, campfires, seeing the surfers at Steamer Lane, and cupcakes for the birthday girl.

But the even bigger news – at least for a couple of education wonks – is that Adela is officially a pre-schooler. She had her first day today at Glen Park Montessori. She cried, we didn’t. I thought it was supposed to be the other way around. For now, she’ll go two days a week, mornings only.  Hard to believe.
